Bottles to Swaddles: Mastering the Essentials of Infancy

Bottles to Swaddles: Mastering the Essentials of Infancy

by all the conflicting information and baby items on the market?

Are you confused on what type of baby bottles to buy for your baby? Have you heard from friends that "your baby will decide which one he likes"? Have you bought every different type of bottle at the store that claims it is "the best", but your baby STILL has trouble taking a bottle? You may have prepared for breastfeeding by taking a lactation class, but how much do you really know about how to feed an infant, or how an infant's feeding skills develop? And what about swaddling and sleep? There are so many opinions out there - but what are the truths about healthy sleep habits? Are you reading books, asking friends, reading blogs on the internet trying to find answers to your questions? Hoping someone will give you the answer you need, but you just keep getting conflicting information?
This class will answer all your questions!

Why did we create this course?

Baby must have successful feeding and sleeping skills to be able to thrive in every area of development.

Feeding and sleeping are the building blocks of infant development. If your baby has difficulty eating, you will often see issues with sleeping, gross motor development, and even their temperament. The same goes with sleeping. If your baby is having trouble sleeping, they will be too fatigued and disorganized to focus on eating well and achieving their motor skills. Not only is it frustrating for your baby, it is extremely stressful as a parent to experience these difficulties. Our goal with this course is not only to teach you how to get baby to eat and sleep well, but to learn to do it with CONFIDENCE. This course is designed for babies birth-6 months.

Learn to master these essential skills...

  • Know how to position baby appropriately for feedings - both breast and/or bottle.

  • Know what kind of bottles, nipples, and pacifiers are appropriate for baby to promote healthy feeding skills.

  • Learn how to prevent many common issues with infant feeding, such as: reflux, bottle aversion, over-eating, gassiness, colic, and more.

  • Understand when it is appropriate to swaddle baby. Know how to pick out the best swaddle sack for baby, and how to swaddle safely to help prevent hip dysplasia.

  • Develop a sleep plan for your baby using easy techniques to promote healthy sleep patterns, to ensure baby is getting adequate sleep at each stage of infancy.

  • Learn simple but effective stretches and positioning you can do with baby to alleviate gassiness and tightness, and calm their nervous and sensory system to promote success in all areas of development.

Can't I just get this information from books or the internet?

There is too much conflicting information in books and internet from unqualified professionals.

These days, it is all too easy to quickly search the internet, blogs, or mom's groups for guidance and answers to your questions on these important topics. However, you can't trust that the person giving you advice is qualified to give you the correct information. Pediatric therapists spend years studying infant development and we spend all of our time working with and coaching families to help them with even the most challenging issues. This course is taught by pediatric speech language pathologist, and certified lactation consultant, Laura Pierce, and pediatric physical therapist, Gina Mydlo. Because of our combined expertise, you can trust that we will give you the most comprehensive approach to infant development, all wrapped up in one convenient course that you can take at home, at your own pace.

Prevention is key!

It is much easier to prevent issues before they start.

As therapists, we are typically called in AFTER there is a problem or concern; but we are here to change that! It is so much easier to prevent issues before they start, versus trying to change old habits. Not only could this course save you financial stress from doctor's visits, unnecessary medications, and purchasing countless of baby items that are doing more harm than good; but it can also save you from emotional stress. The stress from not knowing what to do if baby is having issues, not having a plan to fix those issues, stress from lack of sleep, and from worrying about your baby's well-being... Eliminating that kind of emotional stress is priceless.

How much would it mean to you if...

  • You knew exactly how to feed your infant, without worrying if "you're doing it right"?

  • You had a plan to teach baby how to get enough sleep, that is flexible enough to work with your family's routine and beliefs.

  • You never had to spend countless hours searching the internet or reading books, only to find conflicting answers to your questions?

  • You could confidently walk into a store and know exactly what kind of baby item is going to be best, without doing extensive research beforehand, or without wasting money spent on baby items that aren't good for baby?

  • You had peace of mind, knowing you are doing exactly what you need to do as a caregiver to promote baby's development?

You deserve to be CONFIDENT

Baby just needs YOU, and YOU need to be educated on infant development so you can properly support your child. You could prevent issues before they even start, so that you can spend more time doing what you really want, which is snuggling with your sweet baby! CONFIDENCE as a parent can be so powerful; it can reduce your anxiety around parenting, it can free up time that you would normally spend worrying or researching, and it will put your mind at ease. This class can give that to you. So please, give your baby the best gift, which is YOUR BEST, CONFIDENT SELF.
Yes, I want to become a confident parent!

"Massive improvement with bottle feeding"

by Kristin Lammert

"I cannot say enough wonderful things about Gina and Laura's classes. I wish I could recommend every expectant mom to take this course while they wait and prepare for baby. I read a lot of books to prepare for my first baby, but I oftentimes found conflicting information. Before my daughter arrived, I read books, searched online, and talked with friends and family, but this course by far gave me the most useful and applicable information that I used daily. I felt so confident applying the strategies and suggestions from Gina and Laura because their combined expertise makes them extremely knowledgeable and reliable sources of information! I am so grateful for the confidence they brought to me as a first time parent. I also love the approach they take with newborns and infants - they are proactive instead of reactive. Why wait until there is a problem or a notable delay? Gina and Laura have all the insights into things to watch out for so you can detect early on if your little one needs some extra help, whether it be with crawling, taking a bottle, babbling, or so on. Thanks to Laura, I noticed early on that my daughter was having issues eating from a bottle. Within a week of working with Laura, we saw a massive improvement and before long, our little girl was taking a bottle no problem.Gina and Laura are extremely passionate about what they do and they will stop at nothing to help you and your little one! Thank you Gina and Laura for the ENDLESS help you have been for Claire. From answering my questions, helping me tweak things to help Claire progress, and giving us a plethora of useful information, we couldn't have done it without you!"

Expecting mommy

"I am an expecting mom due in a few weeks, and took their courses recently. They were awesome classes with really valuable information about milestones and things to look out for. I also learned a lot of specific things related to items on my registry like the right bottles, container usage (swings/bouncers/rocknplays), and baby wearing with slings or carriers. I definitely made some adjustments to my registry after the class! I am getting ready to review all my notes in preparation for baby, and feel a lot more prepared having taken these courses. Highly recommended! "

Overwhelmed to Confident

"Their Best Start: Support for Child Development offers essential information about child development and safety in a practical, well-designed course instructed by pediatric therapists (who are also experienced moms!) As a new mom, I was overwhelmed by the amount of infant products available on the market. Their Best Start provided me with the knowledge and confidence to navigate the baby aisles and know which items to actually buy. Their Best Start also provided me with useful tips for promoting age-appropriate developmental milestones. I highly recommend Their Best Start for any expectant parent or caregiver. "

I provide pediatric therapy services in the areas of development, language, feeding, and cognitive rehabilitation at Ranken Jordan Pediatric Bridge Hospital. I provide these same services to children ages 0-3 and their families through Missouri's early intervention program - Missouri First Steps. I also treat pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders and provide breastfeeding support through my private practice, Pierce Pediatric Feeding Services. I live in Kirkwood, MO with my husband, four children, stepdaughter, 2 dogs and 3 cats. • Gina Mydlo

    Pediatric Physical Therapist

    Gina Mydlo

I am a pediatric physical therapist based in St. Louis, who specializes in treating children ages 0-3 through Missouri's early intervention program. I help teach children how to roll, sit, crawl, stand, walk, and I help promote the best posture during daily activities like feeding, sitting, and standing. My favorite thing to do is spend time with my husband and son! While I have been a pediatric therapist longer than a mother, my son is the one who has taught me the most about relating to children and families, and how physical function impacts every part of daily living. Not every parent has a background or specialty in infant development, but every parent should have ACCESS to this information. I have spent years studying and practicing what I preach, so let me give you some tips and tricks that will make a big difference in your (and your baby’s) life!
